Moon over purple sea

Sometimes I just really need an image to meditate on to find my center again and regain my equanimity. Thank you Apple Photos for dredging this one up from my over thirty thousand photos.

Mother’s Day

My father always said Mother’s Day was just an excuse for retailers to sell more stuff but my mother cried if he didn’t get her flowers. After he died it was my brother who always brought her flowers. Now she is gone but I am the closest to where she is buried so I bring her the flowers on Mother’s Day.

I designed this gravestone for her and my father when she died. It was made in Barre from Barre granite.
The two entwined trees are from the Greek myth of Philemon and Baucis, an old couple who were hospitable to the gods and were rewarded, as they requested, by becoming entwined trees after they died.
The saying at the bottom “If music be the food of love, play on…” is from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”

I thought the entwined trees and the Shakespeare quote fit my parents perfectly.

The daffodils are in a pickle jar. I thought that fitting as well.

And the blue skies with wispy clouds behind the stone…what luck! I can just hear my mother saying “The skies are so beautiful here in Vermont.”

Indeed! Love you mom.

On the Froggie Theme

Still on a froggie theme…The great migration hasn’t occurred yet, too cold, maybe tonight. Meanwhile, while we’re waiting, here are a couple of photos from my dead frog assemblage collection.

Dead frog dancing
Froggie in a dish, sailing into unknown worlds

I know, pretty weird. Oh well, that’s the mood I’m in.

Patch of Blue

Photo taken April 4, 2020

See that tiny little patch of blue in the center amidst the dark clouds?
Some days are like that. April 4th 2020 certainly was.

And what was the meaning of those five puddle dots on the road? Towards what were they leading me?

A mystery…

Ramadan Mubarak sha رمضان مبارک

That’s Pashto (the language used by the Afghans newly arrived in our community) for

Happy (or Blessed) Ramadan!

“March comes in like a lion…goes out like a lamb”? Nope, whoever said that obviously didn’t live in Vermont, though it is lambing time now so in some fashion I guess.

Disclaimer! I did not take this photo but I couldn’t resist posting it.

Mud season has been particularly bad this year but there is always some beauty to be found

if you keep an eye out for it.

“April showers bring May flowers”? Nope, April showers bring amphibian road crossers.

“April is the cruelest month”? Perhaps but what about May snowstorms?

My front path one day in May

And the blackflies in June just when gardening season is in full swing?…

Good thing I have my black fly netting to protect me. (I rolled it up for this photo op at the Adamant Blackfly Festival)

And finally, Gut Chodesh! Happy new moon first day of the Jewish calendar month of Nisan!

APRIL FIRST!

The frogs and salamanders are hopping and slithering across the road in the first spring rain, heading to their vernal pools.

The geese are flying over Sodom Pond looking for a place to nest and raise their young.

The cardinal in my village sings insistently hoping to attract the perfect mate.

The pussy willows are out, soft and gray in the morning mist.

It’s mud season now, the road ruts so deep a car could sink in up to its chassis and they do.

The sap has risen in the maple trees. A bonanza maple sugaring season is almost over, the last “frog run” about to happen any day now.

Alas, I spied a baby woodchuck in my yard emerging from its burrow to nibble on the first spring greens. (Cute but not in my garden if you please.)

Spring has most certainly sprung!

And I couldn’t resist one last MAM post on one of my very favorite holidays. (Click on an image to see a larger version.)

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

DAY THIRTY ONE

Oh no, last day? (I might surprise you tomorrow…keep an eye out.) Can’t believe the March Arts Marathon is over. Gotten used to waking up each morning and cogitating on what to post that day and then working on it on into the night. I’ll miss you all my dear sponsors. It was knowing you were out there at least occasionally perusing my posts and cheering me on with your responses that kept me going. If you’d like to continue getting posts from me (don’t worry, not daily for sure) or if you’d like to take another look at previous posts (maybe you missed one or two?) then please sign up to “follow” me on my WordPress blog. I’ll try to continue to post there at least occasionally though without the impetus of MAM it will be harder to garner the energy and enthusiasm. Nothing like an audience and a deadline to keep me going.

Here are a couple of parting images and words:

Something ending…

Something new about to begin…

And That’s (Not) All Folks!
